The focus of Ericka's MA project has been to explore the role of textiles to invoke memories and sentiment. She has taken a personal approach to her interest in sentimentality, attachment and emotional responses to clothing and textiles. She has utilised her own collection of fabrics or clothing that she feels emotionally attached to, using embroidery to explore their connections to memories of people, places, or moments in time. Through hand stitch and digital embroidery, she has delved into her personal memories and the idea of collective memory through her own rare experience of growing up as a triplet.

Her textile work is technique and process led as she interprets different ways of capturing the passage of time by using stitch journaling, photography, cyanotype printing and visual and written documentation.

By creating textile art that reflects on her personal history and the memories that are linked to the fabrics and clothes of her life, she hopes that the viewer can do the same in their life. This emotional connection might encourage less waste, more repair, and a positive recognition of the value of textiles and fabrics in our lives.
